Abydos stands apart from other sites in Egypt, as it was in fact the center of a holy city dedicated to Osiris, Lord of the Netherworld. It was also the burial-place of the pre-dynastic kings & pharaohs dating back to the fourth millennium BC.

It is said to be the final destination for the soul to the other world. The temple is one of the most well preserved ancient Egyptian temples dating back to the nineteenth dynasty. There is also a myth that dwells in the corridors of the temple of a lady who was secretly married to Osiris & her soul is said to haunt the place with every sun rise adding an extra mystery to the place.
