Basata

This is another wonderful place to visit in December. It is located on the road between Nuewbia and Taba road in the south of Sinai. This place was one of the earliest ecological camps in Sinai and in Egypt. The owner Eng. Sherif Ghamrawy has introduced a concept that is still quite unknown in Egypt, the eco-friendly environment. In other words, all the material used in building this wonderful place is natural and do not harm the environment. Basata means in Arabic simplicity and this is exactly what it is about.

You can get to Basata in several ways: The first is using your own car, you do not really need a 4x4, any good car will do. The best route to take is the Suez- Nakhl route, which ends in a mountainous road. You will arrive at the Taba checkpoint and from there it is about a 20 to 30 minutes drive. An alternative way is traveling by bus (the East Delta). You can take the bus from three locations in Cairo. The first is Torgoman (El Tahrir square). After that there is Abbasia and finally Almaza station. The cost of the tickets is around 48 L.E (for Egyptians) and around 55 L.E (for non Egyptian). The last option is renting a mini bus from Basata itself. Surprisingly, this option is by far the most suitable for most people. The cost per person can range from 60 to 100 L.E, depending on the number of people.

Once you are there in Basata you can organize several safaris from there. The most important are St. Catherine, The Colored Canyons and the White Canyons. These safaris should be organized at least one day ahead. Accommodation : There are several accommodation options available: Tents: You can bring your own tent and pay 25 L.E per night Huts: A single costs around 401E, and a double costs around 35 L.E Chalets: renting a chalet there will cost you around 200 L.E
