Zaafarana is a small city that many go through to reach the monasteries of St. Anthony and St. Paul, nearby. The two monasteries are similar in build-up. Both have interesting and nicely decorated old churches.

Both also have a spring that gives a continuous flow, winter and summer. Both monasteries also have the usual fortress and very thick surrounding walls that protected the monks during Bedouin raids.

Zaafarana is a quite little city, but the area is being rapidly developed into Red Sea Resorts.
